Racing Thoughts: How To Stop Your Mind Racing Thoughts

As a bunch of uninvited guests who refuse to go home, they keep you awake for hours. The thoughts and speculations from the past to the future of what to remember, job, finances, and relationships etc.

You have probably tried to lay sleepless because of thoughts that were spinning in your head, but they continued to spin despite many efforts to let them go.

It is easy to turn off the radiator, the radio and the night light, but it is immediately harder to shut down the racing thoughts at night. The researchers call it involuntary evening ritual, while the Buddhists briefly call the concept a monkey mind.

According to a study made by the analysis company YouGov, 49 percent occasionally spoiled their night’s sleep with racing thoughts.

So how do you get out of the net you spin yourself? Pills are not the solution, because according to experts in the field, sleeping medication can have serious side effects and will also make you addicted so that a larger dose is needed. On the other hand, there are several kinds of mental tools that may help you. The most important one is Mindfulness.

What is Mindfulness?

Mindfulness is a mental state achieved by focusing one’s awareness on the present moment, while calmly acknowledging and accepting one’s feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations. The techniques to becoming mindful relates to breathing exercises, meditation, and yoga. Mindfulness is more a way of living than an exercise in which we are able to step back and be in the present moment with an acceptance of reality as it is and better control of thoughts, reactions, and actions.
