3 steps to maximize productivity in the workplace

It is common for you to finish each workday feeling exhausted and completely worn-out.

The feeling of just wanting to go home, relax and watch TV is all most people want after a long day at work.

But as you pack your bag to leave work, a coworker enthusiastically goes on about their productive day and your guilt kicks in. You then decide you should open your laptop back up when you get home.

Everyone has 24 hours in a day, but it is how you use it is what matters. Productivity is an art and a science. And you can learn just how to master it!

Here are 3 ways to maximize your productivity at work and to create more balance and happiness in you day to day life:

1. Prioritize your workload based on your energy

Studies have proven that mornings are the best time of day to take on your hardest tasks. The human body moves in cycles; with peaks, highs and lows. Everyone works differently and on a unique schedule. It is important to know when your peaks are and your functionality is at its prime.

It has been said recently that the idea of morning people versus night people is greatly based upon your genetic predisposition. This means that it is crucial to pay attention to your body and how your energy levels vary throughout the day.

2. Find peace and quiet away from your coworkers

Keeping up with the office gossip, or keeping in touch with coworkers can be entertaining, but a big distraction when you are working on a big project and in deep thought, their conversations can be a huge nuisance. In fact, a research study developed by Accountemps shows that 32% of employees reported their talkative coworkers as the single largest culprit to harming their productivity.

Instead of spending ample time chatting while at work, set up a specific date to meet with your coworkers to mingle and build personal relationships. This shows that your work hours are for you to focus, and creates a space for you to connect outside of the office.

3. Create a workspace that inspires you

It isn’t just a when, it is also the where that is important when being productive.

The open office layout does of course have its perks but according to Talent-Works, 58% of employees report wanting quieter workspaces to get tasks complete in an efficient way. If your office has rooms for individuals or spaces created specifically for quiet work take advantage of this and see the difference it makes in productivity.

If quiet rooms are not an option, you can still make your office a peaceful area of productivity. Invest in a pair of noise-canceling headphones to drown out any noise and also indicate to your coworkers that you are working and do not want to be disturbed.

In order to get everything out of every hour within the day, start small and slowly start to incorporate these methods to see a change.
