The city of Tampa has experienced exponential growth in the last decade. According to the Tampa Bay Times, Tampa is among the nation’s top ten biggest leaders in population growth in the last decade. While the Great Recession in 2008 struck the city with blunt force, the metro area has been on the rebound with new construction, an abundance of start ups and an increase in year-round tourism dollars. From the city’s job growth and affordable real estate to the critically-acclaimed beaches a short drive away, the Tampa area has become over 300,000 peoples’ new home since 2010.
Job Growth
The warm winters and vast beaches are only two of the many reasons why Millennials and the beginning of Gen Z are choosing Tampa as their home. A new study has named the city among the top four cities in America for job opportunities. Start-ups and large established companies alike are moving their headquarters and slowly diminishing the city’s unemployment rate of 2.9%. Two of the city’s biggest companies, Sykes Enterprises and Bloomin’ Brands, have a combined nearly 150,000 employees alone. With countless other companies and organizations hiring new talent every year, there is nearly an endless opportunity for growth and professional development.
Affordable and Easy Living
Not only are there several renovated apartment complexes popping up around the city’s urban core, Tampa is ranked among the best places for first-time homebuyers. With millennials being the key generation that is migrating to the area, the ability to buy a home is high on their priority list. The cost of living is 8% below the national average and the public transportation system is evolving every day. For example, TECO street cars transport individuals twelve hours per day every fifteen minutes from Ybor City to Downtown. The city has also recently been flooded with scooters that partner with Uber, and it typically takes less than three minutes for an Uber driver to pick you up at any point in the day.
These are among the many reasons that Minetum Consulting chose this thriving city to begin our journey teaching and inspiring leaders. We have the opportunity to be located in the heart of Downtown Tampa at the Lowth Entrepreneurship Center – a hub for business professionals and research.
