How To Avoid Distractions & Get Things Done

One thing is for certain, we live in a world with no shortage of distraction. It is almost impossible to avoid distractions; from technology that connects us through social media to endless platforms of entertainment. Modern life is challenging the way we think, focus, and interact and is a landmine full of information overload and insufficient content derailing our progress each and every day. Learn more here!

If you want to succeed in your professional and personal life, it is important to avoid these distractions in the best possible manner. Minetum Consulting has developed 3 great tips to be more productive. You can easily implement them as part of your daily routines:

1. Plan Your Day The Night Before

When creating a schedule for the upcoming day the night before, you will start to look at distractions as something you don’t need and stick to the schedule that you planned out. You can either use an Excel sheet, a planner, or a calendar. The schedule can include work related tasks you want to finish and personal out-of-office activities. That way you ensure you incorporate a healthy work-life-balance to your plan and become more productive. You will be much more likely to stick to your plan and thereby avoid distractions that potentially could derail it.

 2. One Thing at a Time – Avoid Multitasking

Some people claim they can easily multitask jumping from one task to another or switching between tasks simultaneously. However, they constantly interrupt their mental information flow and damage their concentration abilities. Therefore, break down your processes and tasks into smaller doable pieces and choose one at a time and dedicate entirely to it. After you complete the task and check it off your planned schedule, you can move on to the next one.

3. Go Offline

The internet and all the content it provides access to is by far the number one distraction of modern times. For many people the internet is part of work functions and they are therefore unable to avoid it while working, but going offline while not working is probably the best way to avoid any distractions. Also, turning your phone off receiving notifications while at work and leaving it a place out of reach will create a much healthier work environment and you will start getting things done which will benefit you in the longer run. So, take some time to completely disconnect from the internet and the cyberworld and start enjoying the real things in life and the people around you. Make it a habit and you will feel much more appreciative and mindful of what the world has to offer.

The 3 tips presented here are quite simple but can be crucial for your productivity in work place settings and your personal life as well. The most common causes of distraction take little effort to correct but pay off big time.
