As the world heard the first news of COVID-19, life as we knew it changed significantly. Going to the gym, eating at a restaurant, birthday parties; activities we previously considered to be a normal part of our lives suddenly were no longer an option. As the months went by with social isolation, we started to think of those activities as privileges.
Right now we’re all wondering what the world will look like after COVID-19. We are in unprecedented territory and the uncertainty remains high. How will businesses operate in the future, and will corporations let employees work from home more frequently? Minetum is here to offer you our opinion on what life will look like after the pandemic.
Utilizing technology at our hands
The pandemic has forced us to utilize the technology available to us and this is a good thing. Corporations have found new ways to run their businesses and get daily tasks done with the use of technology. Virtual meetings will most likely remain a part of our daily lives, as its convenience is superior to face to face meetings for those who live far from work and have to commute.
Travelling will be limited
We are so accustomed to frequent traveling for business and leisure, but life after the pandemic might not offer much traveling for the average person. According to the New York Times, if social distancing will be enforced on planes, prices will be much higher than what the average person is willing and able to pay for a trip.
With many travel restrictions remaining in place to protect countries from new virus outbreaks, the ease of traveling is gone. Furthermore many people also feel less inclined to leave their homes as they fear a new outbreak of COVID-19 soon.
The ability to work remotely
With so many people working from home for the last months, we will probably see a rise in people working remotely on a regular basis. The pandemic gave us a chance to try out this lifestyle and see how it works for our particular job.
For many, it’s an added bonus to try this out as the long commute is avoided and the day feels longer, but for others, the lack of interaction with coworkers is detrimental to their wellbeing. While most companies probably won’t continue to work remotely only, flexibility for employees will be greater than it was before.
Finding new opportunities
Many companies have found ways to utilize their equipment in new ways to help with the production of e.g. needed medical equipment during the pandemic. Some might have the option to expand into a new business area that they’d never thought about until they were asked to provide different products or services.
Businesses have found creative ways to reach their customers despite closed physical locations, and restaurants have offered curbside delivery. We have witnessed a huge spur in creativity in order to stay in business during the financial crisis that the pandemic brought upon us.
This innovative and creative mindset is something business owners can take with them to their post-pandemic lives, continuing to find better and more efficient ways to serve consumers.

Enjoying the company of others
As long as the threat of the virus remains, we will continue to be limited in our gatherings with other people. When the threat is eliminated with a vaccine, the fear of the virus will dissipate too. Until then we’ll probably adapt our social norms such as greetings without a handshake. We will never forget the difficulty of this time and social isolation has taught us to really appreciate the time we spend with others.
Minetum believes that life after the pandemic will be very different from how we knew it, but we have to focus on the unexpected positive outcomes and stay innovative and creative.
